Chippewa Lake has three standing coasters. The first was originally called the Big Dipper and later referred to as Coaster. This was a Fred Pierce out and back style coaster build in the spring of 1924. The coaster is said to have done great busibness and remains the most expensive amusement device ever built at the park. The coaster is still rotting in the woods and is very much intact.
The second coaster is a Wild Mouse coaster. I am still researching the name of the builder of this coaster. There are many almost identical coasters built by many different coasters. This particular coaster is built with a wooden fram unlike most others. This coaster is also still standing and rotting. It looks to have been a very exciting small coaster in its day. The third an final standing coaster at Chippewa is the Little Dipper. Many children most likely took their first plunge on the little dipper. Today it stands as a metal framework for trees and plants to grow on. |
